MUSIC CLASS
WHAT WE DO
We make music! We sing, play instruments, move with music, play musical games, read music, and become knowledgeable consumers of music.
HOW WE DO IT
Using the philosophy of Kodály. Mrs. Grill is a Level II Kodály trained teacher. Her students use folk songs and games to learn musical elements and techniques.
PARENTS CAN HELP
Sing with your kids. Have them sing for you. Ask them to show you a game they learned in music class. Teach them a folk song or music game from your childhood. Support them by coming to their performances. Take them to see live music. Play quality music at home or in the car.
Recorders
About the Recorder: We study recorders in 3rd-5th music class. A recorder is a small, inexpensive plastic wind instrument with which students will learn fingering technique, breath control, and ensemble playing skills. This will prepare students for playing a band instrument.
Student Responsibility: Students will be responsible for the care and storage of their own instruments in the music room, which will prepare them for the greater responsibility of more expensive and fragile instruments in middle school.
The cost is $5. All 3rd-5th graders in Mrs. Grill's music class must have one that stays at school. Optional additional recorders could be used for practice at home, but are not required. Scholarships are available if needed, contact Mrs. Grill if the purchase is an issue for your family.
